THE Premier League Darts returns THIS Thursday - and it is expected to be a thrilling night in Belfast.

Luke Humphries maintained his position at the top of the table having picked up a third successive victory this season.

But it was a disappointing tournament for teen sensation Littler who lost 4-6 to Michael Smith in the opening round.

    It's not Wright

Former darts star Mike De Decker claims Peter Wright should not have been handed a spot in this year's Premier League.

He said: "Wright should never have been in the Premier League, especially when you look at his level the last few months of last year, which was lousy.

"But he has his show on stage, that dance, uses new arrows almost every leg... I think he was just selected for that.

"But in terms of level and performance, obviously someone like Chris Dobey should always have been there."

    'Bubble has not burst'

Colin Lloyd is adamant the hype around Luke Littler is as strong as ever - and deservedly so.

He said: His bubbles burst? No it hasn't.

"At this moment in time I'm going to give his performances a B. He's not won a night yet but he's still doing some stuff."

On him yet to pick up a Premier League night crown, Lloyd stressed: "I wouldn't panic about it at the moment."

    Break time

Pundit Colin Lloyd believes not overloading Luke Littler is the key to his success.

He said: "He's been doing absolutely everything since his World Championship run.

"It makes you think to yourself, has he had a bit of time to sit down, relax, take everything in and regroup.

"So I think his break from Hildesheim Players Championship was a very mature thing to do."

    'It’s unsustainable'

Luke Littler's team claim the teen star's busy schedule is being managed to avoid burnout.

The 17-year-old shot to fame at Ally Pally in December and is now on the demanding PDC Tour and away from the oche has featured on the Jonathan Ross Show.

Martin Foulds of ZXF Sports Management insists the teenager is being looked after.

Foulds, 40, told the BBC: “He’s pretty much in every TV event for the rest of the year without throwing another dart.

“There’s no off-season in darts. You’ve got to travel to these events – you don’t just time-warp and you’re in Belfast, Graz, Munich, Rotterdam.

“It’s unsustainable for any player to travel and play all of those events.

“When you’re playing in thePremier Leagueespecially, travelling can take its toll on anybody."

    Humble Humphries

Humphries said: "I've worked so hardon myself to get to this level but Michael has been at this level - and higher a lot longer.

    Aspinall's rags to riches tale

Nathan Aspinall has revealed he was around £10,000 in debt before a change of fortune at the oche saw him transform his life.

He said on the Love The Darts Podcast: "The truth is I was about £10,000 in debt but it's perspective isn't it?

"I love my job, I've got the best job in the world and all my family are proud of what I do but looking back at the memories, six years ago I had absolutely nothing and now my kids have the best life ever.

"My fan base is obscene. Every time I walk out, the reaction I get from the crowd - they might not even like me but they like 'Mr Brightside' - that's what spurs me on.

"So if I'm down in the dumps or I'm not playing well the crowd start singing my name and that's what turns me into the winner that I am."

‘Team effort’ to look after Luke

Darts chiefs have stressed Luke Littler must have a strong team around him protecting hiswell-being.

Aged just 17, the sport’s youngest ever world finalist has had a hecticschedule for both competition and media appearances in the past three months.

Littler has already suggested he might stop playingin his mid-30s if he gets bored.

AndPDC Chief Executive Matthew Porter told theLove the Darts: “What’s really positive is Luke’s recent wins are going to help his schedule because it will reduce the number of qualifiers he has to play.

“The mediademands are high, still getting a lot of requests for high-end content.

“We saw him on The Jonathan Ross Show, he’s doing Comic Relief, there are a lot of A-list people that want to speak to Luke which is great for him and great for darts and it’s important that it is managed properly.

“His manager Martin (Foulds) is excellent, his family are very supportive, we’re involved.

“It’s a team effort to make sure everything is geared around giving him the optimal opportunity to be the best he can on the oche and just get enough rest andtime to be a normal 17-year-old as best he can away from that.”

    Luke at that

Luke Littler and Chris Dobey cruised to victory at the Swedish Darts Festival pairs tournament on Saturday.

The duo beat ex-PDC star turned Sky Sports commentator Wayne Mardle and Madars Razma 2-0 in the first semi-final and went on to face Viktor Tingström and Dennis Nilsson in the final.

Littler and Dobey broke their Swedish opponents straight away after the latter checked out 94.

Teen superstar Littler then ended the match with an 86 checkout to seal the win.

It comes after the 17-year-old suffered a defeat to Michael Smith on night eight of Premier League Darts in Dublin last week.

That meant he was knocked out in the quarter-finals.

    Scores on the doors

Luke Humphries is leading the Premier League darts table after picking up his third successive win - with the roadshow moving on to Belfast next.

Teenage sensation Luke Littler has made a phenomenal start to his debut season, sitting third with 11 points - and heads into Nottingham in fine form after winning the Belgian Open.

The 17-year-old starlet has been fired into the limelight ever since his phenomenal performance at the 2023-24 World Championships.

The wonderkid was the youngest-ever finalist at the prestigious tournament but was beaten on the night by World No1 Luke Humphries.

Since then, however, Littler has picked up his first title as a pro, winning the Bahrain Darts Masters.

But the teen sensation did lose in the Dutch Darts Masters final to Michael van Gerwen.

After the Worlds, Littler was invited to play in the Premier League, and the 17-year-old has continued to raise eyebrows on his debut season.
