Crockpot French Onion Dip with homemade chips. It is so amazing and will be a keeper for you to cook over and over again. I have never ever tasted an onion dip as good as this one. Get out your crockpot and come and make French onion dip in the crockpot slow cooker with me.

Mrs Beeton Book of Household Management talks on page 480 about onion sauce. In the classic Mrs Beeton version onions are boiled, served with white sauce, a little lemon juice and served with meat or fish.

It was a very popular onion sauce to be paired with your meals and it made me realise that this Crockpot French Onion Dip is just a modern take on the Mrs Beeton original. Unlike in the old days when onions were boiled they are slow cooked instead. This allows the onion to keep its amazing flavour and nutrients.

As well as this, your onion sauce is now lower in calories thanks to flour being replaced with a drizzle of white wine along with cheese and other dairy.

I still like the original Mrs Beeton version but I also find this version would impress our grandparents too. They would think that we were being imaginative and that unlike lots of modern day cooking, that it was not spicy!

Crockpot French Onion Dip & Chips Date Night

I love the idea of a date night with my Crockpot French Onion Dip & Chips just because it is so easy. Its more a snack portion so perfect if you have had dinner with your family and then want something to snack on in the evening while enjoying a new Netflix show.

My all time favourite way of serving it is via the Airfryer with some delicious chunky fries. But of course, there are plenty of great options such as fresh bread or some French Toast.

Though be warned your taste buds will be totally floored with the delicious flavours of a Crockpot French Onion Dip. I mean WOW.

The prepping for this French Onion Dip is tiny:

  • Chop up your ingredients
  • Throw them into your Crockpot
  • Cook on low for 8 hours
  • Add extra ingredients
  • Cook for another hour
  • Serve with carbs of choice

Even better you don’t even have to peel your garlic and I mean that has to be a genius move right?

You could also put this on low in the morning before you go to work and then it can be ready for you to do the last hour when you come home from work.

Crockpot French Onion Dip & Chips is priced as follows:

Prices may adjust from country to country, but these are the prices we paid in Portugal and works out at $1.92 for two people. Though this French Onion Dip & Chips is at the time of writing this post based on current exchange rates. We find that compared to the US our prices are identical. This is because we pay a lot more for our meat and dairy, yet a lot less for fruit and vegetables that it levels itself out.

I kind of want to put this on my cheap meals for two. But look at the size of it, you can hardly call it cheap meals for two. BUT when you take into account bumping it up with fresh bread or more chips.

Instructions

  • Peel and dice the onion thinly. Peel and quarter the garlic cloves and place them in the Crockpot. Add to the Crockpot salt, pepper and the butter. Cook on low for 8 hours.

  • After cooking on low add the white wine, soft cheese and Greek yoghurt. Give a good stir. Cook for another hour on low.

  • Add to a big serving dish, garnish with fresh chives and then serve with chunky chips.

Notes

You can use this chunky chip recipe and they don’t take long in the Airfryer. Next time I will be doing extra chips as I found we had more chips than dip.

I normally like to have a few herbs in my recipes but found that the mix of cheese, fresh chives, salt and pepper along with white wine gave it an amazing flavour.

This Crockpot French Onion Dip can also be done in the Crockpot on high for 3.5 hours too, plus an extra 20 minutes for the final part of the cooking process.
