strawberry jam recipe | homemade low sugar strawberry jam with step by step photo and video recipe. the recipe of strawberry jam is quite simple and is prepared by heating the flesh and juice of strawberry and no pectin used. the mixture is heated with sugar till it releases its pectin and forms a jelly shape. it is later stored in air tight container for later use.
honestly, i am not a huge fan of strawberry jam or any jam recipes. i personally do not prefer to have sweet and cold breakfast and it has to be warm and savoury. generally i prefer it to be south indian breakfast recipes like idli or dosa or perhaps poha or upma. this is my weekly routine. but one of my friend asked me to try raisin bread toast with strawberry jam. hence i thought to give a try but was surprised to see the sugar quantity in store bought jams. therefore i decided to prepare it by myself and hence this recipe post with the video.
it does not have any complicated steps in this recipe, yet some easy tips and recommendations for a perfect strawberry jam. firstly, soak the strawberry in sugar for an hour to soften and reduce the cooking time. also adjust the amount of sugar from 1 cup to 3 cup for 750 grams of strawberry depending on sweetness you are looking for. finally, do not skip addition of lemon as it prevent sugar from crystallising.

Ingredients
- 750 grams strawberry, hulled & chopped
- 1 cup 250 grams sugar
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
Instructions
firstly, in a large kadai take 750 grams strawberry and 1 cup sugar. add 3 cups (750 gm) of sugar if you are not diet conscious.
keeping the flame on medium, stir well till the sugar dissolves.
now add 1 tbsp lemon juice to prevent sugar from crystallising.
stir well and boil for 5 minutes.
keep stirring occasionally to prevent burning of strawberry.
continue to boil for another 10 minutes or till strawberry turns soft.
mash the strawberry well and till you get smooth consistency.
cook on medium flame till the mixture thickens and the foams disappear completely.
to check the consistency, dip a cool metal spoon into the mixture and make sure the mixture doesn't drop off. else continue to cook further.
transfer the jam into glass jar and cool completely.
finally, spread homemade low sugar strawberry jam over bread / chapathi and enjoy.

- firstly, finely chop the strawberries or blend to puree to reduce the cooking time. however i prefer few chunks of strawberries in my jam.
- additionally, strawberry can be substituted with any berries like raspberries or blackberries to make jam.
- further the jam stays good for a month or more when refrigerated.
- also, to store for longer time, transfer the jam into hot sterile jars, leaving 1 cm headspace and seal jar in a water bath.
- finally, keep stirringhomemade low sugar strawberry jam else it might burn from bottom.
